Weighted Grading System
In the determination of the annual valedictorian, salutatorian, distinguished honor
graduate, and class rankings, a weighted grade point average system will be used.
Courses will carry a weighted value of one to five.
A value of 5(five) will be awarded to
Honors and Advanced Academic courses, and dual credit courses.
In general, category 4 shall contain difficult courses and generally those recognized as courses needed for the Advanced High School transcript and courses that require three years of high school prerequisite courses.
A value of 3(three) will be awarded to courses that fall into the category of regular
academic classes.
A value of 2(two) will be awarded to courses that fall into the category
of electives.
A value of 1(one) will be given to courses of a remedial or resource level
along with student aides.
The weighted grade point average system will allow all courses to count towards the
selection of valedictorian, salutatorian, distinguished honor graduate and class rank.
Students will be rewarded for the selection of the more difficult courses by receiving
more grade points.
Only courses taken while enrolled in high school will count toward the student's final
grade point average.
Credit may be given but grade points are not awarded for courses taken by alternate
means.
