Fine Arts
I graduated from PHS in 1983, and from Abilene Christian University in 1987 with a degree in Psychology.
I went on to Corpus Christi State University and was awarded my teaching certificate in the areas of Psychology and English, and I later added Theater, Special Ed, PE, Elementary education, Speech and Art to my certifications through the years.
My favorite thing to teach may be English 4....I am a total Shakespeare & Chaucer nerd, and all of the literature in British Lit is my favorite. I love converting people who think they hate Shakespeare.
It can be done.
It happens every year in my classroom!
I have a B.A. in Psychology from Abilene Christian University.
I have multiple hours in Music Performance from Corpus Christi A&M.
I have almost a complete Masters in Psychology from East TExas A&M.
I am currently working on my certification in Gifted and Talented Education.
Additionally, I attend a yearly UIL Intensive training for One Act Directors in the Austin/San Marcos area called the Maestro Experience. The training I get at this conference is akin to a PhD in Creativity for the Stage!
I started teaching at PHS in 2007-08 until the present.
I teach Theater, Reading Lab, Debate and English 4.
I coach the Debate Team, and direct the UIL One Act Play, in addition to other smaller productions throughout the year.
Previous to teaching in Panhandle, I taught in White Deer ISD, Amarillo ISD where I was a middle school teacher and volleyball/basketball and track coach.
I also have taught in the Garland ISD in the Dallas area, also teaching middle school English and coaching volleyball/basketball and track.
I have loved every one of my teaching positions, and value greatly the tough assignments in bigger schools. Nothing can compare with teaching at my alma mater and giving back to the community of Panhandle, though!
Sheryl Oliver is married to Mark Oliver, with two kids: Josh, a senior at PHS, and Stella, a sophomore at PHS.
We have pets who allow us to live at their home....
I graduated from PHS in the Class of 1983, and my father, Marshall Sherwood, graduated from PHS in the class of 1953.
Proud Panthers in our family!
